Demo Day is a day of learning, exploring new techniques, and networking with other artists in your area. The MASSC website posted a thank you:”Thanks to everyone who attended MASSC’s Demo Day. We had a record crowd this year! Because of your support and interest, this event was a huge success. “MASSC, or the Metal Arts Society of Southern California is a local Guild of Artists formed:

To serve the needs and interests of artists and designers who are engaged in making craft works by providing an exchange of information on such issues as producing, teaching, exhibiting, and marketing.

At Demo Day you are broken into 6 groups (about 20 people per group) and each group visits 6 different Demo areas. These are not workshops – you are merely introduced to a technique. Which if you are already working in metal you can pick up and incorporate into your body of work – and – if you are a beginner gives you an idea of a technique that you might wish to pursue.2010 DEMO DAY AT EL CAMINO COLLEGE:Ruth Shapiro: Put Your Best foot ForwardLearn how to make displays that will enhance your work. You can see Ruth’s work at: www.growingupjewish.com and www.ruthshapiro.etsy.com Marne Ryan: Organic MetalsThe opportunity to play with fire constructively while creating rich textures in sterling silver.Check out Marne’s work at: www.marneryan.comConnie Fox: Define DesignThis demo will cover several strategies for clarifying, deepening, and expanding your awareness of your own personal jewelry design sensibility. For more about Connie see: www.conniefox.comBreak For Lunch – this is sometimes the best class of the day as everyone gets together to chat, commune, meet and reconnect!Melinda Alexander: – Riveted Stone SettingCapture a stone with the simple technique of Rivets.Connect with Melinda at: Metalsmithmelinda (at) yahoo.comSandra VanderMey – Coloring Titanium:Enhance your expressions by adding the language of colorContact Sandra at: tqween (at) roadrunner.comI have to apologize to Sandra – I heard great things about her demo – but I had a prior commitment to cover the opening of a new Mineral Art Gallery (Zzyzx Gallery) in downtown Los Angeles…so no photos.
