Review: Lark Studio Series….the little books!

by Robyn Hawk on April 10, 2012

From Lark Crafts:
Each Lark Studio Series book is like a portable art gallery, offering over a hundred images on a given theme, as culled from our best-selling 500 series, on the topic of Handmade DollsCeramic SculpturesTablesEarringsHandmade BooksChairsPendants, or Art Tiles.”

These are the coolest little books…and yes – that is a size reference – these are approx 5 inches square.  Personally I believe that, like all Lark Books, these should come with a warning!!!

BEWARE – Reading This Book Will Encourage You To Add Yet Another
Craft To Your Repertoire!

…and the crazy thing is we do it and we love it!!!

This is a series of “Craft Books”  – so why add them to a Jewelry Book Review?  two of them happen to be Jewelry related!

…and “GIVEAWAY ALERT” (see Giveaway post)  I am giving you the opportunity to get the entire set!!!

Just some info on all eight books:
  • these are NOT tutorials
  • approx 100 inspirational photos per topic
  • curated from the 500 series books
  • artist index at the back of each book

SO – in the spirit of the books the majority of this review will be in photo form and most were sourced from the Lark Crafts blog!

The two Jewelry topics are spectacular – if you have read this blog before, you know that it is my belief that Lark Books will make an amazing reference for appraisers in the future…how I wish there was a source for Art Jewelry through the decades!!!

The two Jewelry Topics are “Pendants” and “Earrings”

This was one of my favorites – who knew there were so many book binding options??? Lark – that’s who!

From the dramatic “Exclusion” Altered Book by Jennifer Evans Kinsley…

…and Susan Lenz’ whimsical “Some Things I’ll Never Know”…WOW!

…and you can’t miss the motivational aspect of “Circulatory Activities” by Julia Elsas

To the more traditional “journal” style of “Artist Retreat Book”  by Sandy Webster.

Handmade Dolls – Adorable and sometimes creepy….in a realistic way!

…now I know I have a glue gun around here someplace!!!

Form or Function…these “Tables”  and “Chairs”  are so much more than something you sit on or something you eat dinner off!

Shot through with functionality mixed with whimsy and an undeniable artistic hand!

DISCLOSURE:   Lark provided these books for review
